Researching Gucci Shoes

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

A post that has absolutely nothing to do with WoW, on a WoW blog? Sacrilege!!

Well, to be perfectly frank, I don’t care :) Who knows, after next expansion your new shiny lvl85 epixx boots could be sponsored by Gucci, or Prada, or Versace or whatever other expensive lifestyle brand.

Aside from that completely made up with my arse speculation, I am actually interested in your opinions about Gucci shoes for a schoolproject I’m doing. So for the research I am using as much channels as possible to ask the mucho importante question: Why do you buy Gucci Shoes? Please leave your comments at the bottom of this post…that was all, thank you!

Path of the Titans

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

In Cataclysm, we will be getting 5 more levels, 5 more talent points, but NOT increased talent trees, instead we will be improving our characters through the Path of the Titans. A new system that will give every class the same options. We will be choosing a path to follow and unlock new ‘talents’ by doing certain quests, defeating certain encounters and through other objectives. The paths will be modeled after the old Titans, creators of Azeroth and the Azerothian races.

Altho this system gives me some concerns about the flexibility, and I’m afraid that it will just lead to extra cookie-cutter specs, but nontheless I am still pretty excited about it.

Each titan cultivates specific interests that relate to particular elements or energy types — essentially, to some small aspect of creation over which the titan holds a measure of dominance. Some titans refer to the piece of creation upon which they focus as their “sphere of power”. My guess is that different Paths will be based on these elements and energy types, so there will be a Fire Path, Arcane Path, Ice Path, Shadow Path etc.. With this in mind I can only come to the conclusion that certain Paths will compliment certain specs better than others, resulting again in the concerns of cookie-cutter spec/path combinations.

So far there are 6 paths anounced, but what will their associated elements be?

Aman’Thul the High Father – Electricity
As leader of the titans, Aman’Thul is responsible for the creation of all worlds, including Azeroth. This path would probably be best for the following classes: Priest, Druid and Shaman focusing primarily on healing specs, but possibly other caster classes too and granting them more flexibility in melee situations. Maybe elemental shamans?

Eonar the Lifebinder – Nature
Consort of Aman’Thul, protector of life and nature. Another one primarily for the healing classes and specs focusing more on Nature spells, possibly best for Priests, Druids, Shamans, but also Hunters due to the nature theme.

Norgannon, the Dreamweaver – Arcane
Norgannon is master of the arcane magic, knowledge, secrets and mysteries. This one would be aimed at Mages, Warlocks, maybe moonkins and shadowpriests

Khaz’Goroth, the Shaper – Earth
This would be one for the melee classes, warrior, death knights, maybe rogues(?) or melee specced druids, or enhancement shamans

Aggramar, the Avenger – ???
Aggramar is in charge of combating the Burning Legion and eliminating its demonic taint, so I doubt this path will be for the warlocks, shadow priests and death knights. Instead, I think this one will also be aimed at melee classes.

Golganneth, the Thunderer – Air/Water
He is the embodiment of thunderstorms and lightning, storms and winds. My first thought was this would be a good candidate for Mages and Shamans, but judging from a series of pictures (see below) found on mmo-champion, this seems be aimed mostly at druids, and possibly other tanking classes.

I’m kinda hoping there will be more paths, and maybe even one for Sargeras, which could be aimed at Warlocks, Death Knights and Shadow Priests. All-in-all, this new system is looking to be another great addition to an already great game and I can’t wait to put my hands on this new system.

So, with what I wrote above which path would you choose?

The Emerald Wishful Dreaming

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Something that got pretty much ignored by the whole WoW community is this little sentence from MMO-Champion

“On a non related sidenote, I would also like to point out that the old Emerald Dream maps that have been in the game files for years have been slightly updated throughout the 3.2, and in the Build 10072 of the PTRs the Map.dbc file with some of the settings for each zone was updated to make it a 40 Players max zone.”.

It was posted right below the now-famous screenshots of the new Haloween masks, but with everybody tripping over new race speculations, this tiny bit of information got plainly ignored.

So, what does it mean? Well in my opinion it probably means that the Emerald Dream will be in the new expansion and since it will be 40 Players max it must some sort of pvp-zone, which doesn’t really makes sense to me, but it can not be a raid zone since Blizzard has stated numerous times that they will not bring back the old 40man raids. /confuzled

Maybe this will finally be the often-requested raid-zone where Alliance and Horde have to work together to reach a common goal, such as beating the Emerald Nightmare, who knows?

What do you think the Emerald Dream will be?

Flying through Azeroth

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Not too long ago a blue posted this

The vanilla flavour lands were never designed with free flight in mind. That, coupled with the introduction of character flight at higher levels gave us a chance to stagger when and how players see content. With changes to mounts and their systems in the past, and those coming our way in the not too distant future with 3.2, this may be addressed further down the line.

It’s been discussed at great length of course. I mean, who would not talk about this? There are so many plans for changes and updates to the experiences we all have within the world and so many ideas we would simply love to put in place. Ideas like this keep us going, driving us to continue to make cool improvements.

Now, I didn’t really take much notice of it. But today I stumbled onto it again on incgamers. Below the post was a comment telling people to look up the poster “Nalgon” on the wow-us discussion boards. Doing so, will get you 1 post dated 21st of June 2009, this is what it states:

No point in debating, heres the REAL scoop kids…
Cataclysm is the next Wow X-Pack
New level cap is 85.
Horde = Goblin
Alliance = Worgen
Azeroth zones completed & flying mounts enabled.
Zone changes & phasing in Azeroth – Desolace with trees, Barrens with volcanic eruptions!
Cross realm adventuring, think BGs but for PVE & the possiblilty to start new characters at level 50.
Enjoy!

Holy crap (I love that phrase), flying mounts in Azeroth! Brilliant, we finally get to see stuff like Ironforge Airstrip, the Dancing troll village and mount Hyjal legally and without the trouble of wallwalking or glitching. I hope they will implement some extra quests in the old world that make use of the new flying ability, and Blizzard being Blizzard I bet they will implement some nice daily quests for that, huzzah!

So, what will be the first thing you do with your flying mount in Azeroth?

Runemastering

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Avene, a guildy of mine, recently dug up an article about Runemaster being a good candidate for the new Hero-class, complete with talent-tree suggestions, class mechanics and some background info. I’ll be doing a small break-down and commentary on this summary since there are some things I don’t completely agree with. Oeverall tho, the Runemaster sounds like a great addition to the game

New Hero Class: Runemaster

- – - – - – - General Information – - – - – - – -

Background Info – Runemasters are monk-like arcane spellcaster and melee fighters who empower themselves with magical energies by inscribing runes onto their bodies. The runemaster is a mystic who sees the power of ley lines. Moreover, those who study runes understand that these are not simply symbols of power – they are the power. The runemaster seeks to become one with the land, but not in the fashion of druids. Rather, the runemaster desires to become a microcosm of the land, seeking to overlay his body with runes.

Not much to agree or disagree with here, but the inscribing of runes on the body makes me think that the inscription profession comes natural for these guys, probably giving them a +5 class-bonus to inscription or something along that line.

Affiliation and Races – The Runemasters ally with both the Horde and Alliance, since the Tauren are thought to have began the arts, and the Dwarves probably learned it from the Titans. So, Lore-wise, the following races have been known to practice this art: Tauren, Orcs, Dwarves and Night Elves. Though, knowing Blizz they just do it like DKs and make it all available for all races.

I don’t think Blizzard would make it available to all races, I see no reason why they’d do that if it doesn’t fit with the lore of the existing playable races. However, I do think they would add it as a class for the new playable races. And in my humble opinion, it would kick some rather nice ass to play a Worgen Runemaster.

- – - – - – - – Gear, Weapons, and Armor – - – - – - – - – -

Note: Runemasters require a high intellect in order to conjure up Runes, this being the case, the Runemaster should have armor and weapons that compliments such stats.

Weapons – Fist Weapons mainly. Runemasters like to be unarmed, using pure brute force to deal damage. Staves, Daggers, and 1H maces/offhand relic are likely for the Caster/Healing Runemasters.

Armor – Leather or Mail are up for grabs. Caster Leather is only used by Balance and Resto Druids (and the occasional shaman), and DPS Leather is only used by Rogues and Feral Druids. Caster mail is also only used by two others, Resto and Elemental Shamans (and the occasional PuG Hunter..), and lastly, Mail DPS is used by Shamans and Hunters.

Runemasters don’t really strike me as a Mail wearing class, and maybe not even leather. No, I think with Runemasters we’ll see the addition of melee-stats cloth armor. Think cloth with agility, strength and attack power boosts.

Fist Weapons are indeed a very likely candidate for some buffing. I’ve always loved fist-weapons and I’ve also always been disappointed with them being underrepresented in the game, therefor I hope they’ll bring some nice fist weapons in-game with some jaw-dropping graphics and stats.

- – - – - – - – - – - Spells and Combat – - – - – - – - – - – -

Runic Power and Glyphs – Lore-wise, these would be the Runemaster’srage/energy/mana generator, and by Glyphs, I mean a system much like the Death Knight’s current one with Runes, only altered to work with certain elements, such as Fire, Water, etc.

Spells and Abilities – The Runemaster has the power to conjure up Runes at will, with great ease at that. Runes should be split into three main categories: Fire (DPS), Water (Healing), and Earth (Support). Some examples of Runes are as followed:

Fire Runes
- Rune of Heated Coals: Increases damage done by Fire based spells by % for 5min.
- Rune of the Fiery Spark: Allows the caster to jump higher. (Cosmetic?)
- Rune of Flames: Increases the Runecaster’s movement speed by 70% for 15 sec.

Water Runes
- Rune of Swift River: Increases swim speed by 50% and allows the caster to breath under water.
- Rune of Cleansing Rain: Increases healing done by the Runemaster by % for 5min.
- Rune of Glistening Water: Increases critical strike chance of spells by % for 5min.

Earth Runes
- Rune of Mangrove: Grants the Runemaster immunity to Poisons and Disease for 10 sec.
- Rune of Oak: Grants x additional armor to the Runemaster for 5min.
- Rune of Starlight: Decreases the target’s melee and ranged attack speed by 15% for 30 sec.

Talents – As stated above, the Runemaster is a monk/arcane caster class, and also uses the powers of Fire, Water, and Earth, which help define the talent trees:

Runic Flames – This talent tree will focus on increasing Melee DPS for the Runemaster.
Water Glyphs – This talent tree will aid the Runemaster in being a caster-healer.
Earth Force – This talent tree supports both DPS and Healing, caster style.

Not much to say about this, it just makes me sad to see one of the elements (air) being left out.

To round it up, so far I have speculated about 3 possible hero classes for the expansion; Tinker, Arch-Druid and Runemaster. What Hero-Class do you think we’ll see swimming around the Maelstrom?
