What to do before the Cataclysm hits Azeroth?

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Today I’d like to take a look at possible things to do before WoW’s next expansion hits the shelves, stuff you will probably won’t be able to do after the eruption of mount blackrock.

  1. Get Exalted. Why? Chances are that a lot of the classic factions will be removed and exalted status with them will net you a nice Feat of Strength So, which faction will be removed? Nothing is certain ofcourse, but here are my expectations:

      • Hydraxian Waterlords, these guys being the sworn enemies of Ragnaros makes them the perfect candidates for either a big revamp in the expansion or for being put to non-active. Either way it might be a good idea to get their rep maxxed

      • Thorium Brotherhood, living in Searing Gorge, they possess the knowledge required to make the arms and armaments of Ragnaros, the Fire Lord., sounds to me like another good faction to get some rep with since Searing Gorge is one of those areas getting a big revamp and chances are these guys will be sort of wiped out by an eruption of Blackrock Mountain

      • Gelkis Clan Centaur, altho, you can’t get exalted with these guys it might be worth to max them out at 11999/12000Honored since chances are big these will be brutely removed from existence during the Cataclysm

      • Magram Clan Centaur , You will have to choose between this one and the Gelkis since they’re enemies and gaining rep with one causes you to loose rep with the other. Also capped at 11999/12000 Honored

  1. Do the dungeons, since some dungeons might get removed or revamped and it might be worth getting their achievements before it’s too late.

    1. Molten Core

    2. Blackrock Depths

    3. Blackrock Spire

    4. Blackwing Lair

    5. Wailing Caverns, since Barrens will be split in half chances are big this one will be gone for good

    6. Deadmines will get heroic version, unknown what they’ll do with the lowlvl version)

    7. Gnomeregan, rumor has it it will be retaken by the gnomes)

    8. Razorfen Downs, same fate as the Wailing Caverns

  2. Get Explorer title! Since new zones will be added to Azeroth, and old zones will be revamped/removed/splitup/etc Blizzard will very likely convert this to a feat of strength and implement a new version for the Cataclysm expansion.

  3. Get Loremaster title, will probably undergo the same fate as Explorer

Plenty to do to keep you occupied for a few days, and definatly something that will keep me busy. What are the must-do things for you before the death of the old world (and the consequent birth of the new world ofcourse)

Flying through Azeroth

Not too long ago a blue posted this

The vanilla flavour lands were never designed with free flight in mind. That, coupled with the introduction of character flight at higher levels gave us a chance to stagger when and how players see content. With changes to mounts and their systems in the past, and those coming our way in the not too distant future with 3.2, this may be addressed further down the line.

It’s been discussed at great length of course. I mean, who would not talk about this? There are so many plans for changes and updates to the experiences we all have within the world and so many ideas we would simply love to put in place. Ideas like this keep us going, driving us to continue to make cool improvements.

Now, I didn’t really take much notice of it. But today I stumbled onto it again on incgamers. Below the post was a comment telling people to look up the poster “Nalgon” on the wow-us discussion boards. Doing so, will get you 1 post dated 21st of June 2009, this is what it states:

No point in debating, heres the REAL scoop kids…
Cataclysm is the next Wow X-Pack
New level cap is 85.
Horde = Goblin
Alliance = Worgen
Azeroth zones completed & flying mounts enabled.
Zone changes & phasing in Azeroth – Desolace with trees, Barrens with volcanic eruptions!
Cross realm adventuring, think BGs but for PVE & the possiblilty to start new characters at level 50.
Enjoy!

Holy crap (I love that phrase), flying mounts in Azeroth! Brilliant, we finally get to see stuff like Ironforge Airstrip, the Dancing troll village and mount Hyjal legally and without the trouble of wallwalking or glitching. I hope they will implement some extra quests in the old world that make use of the new flying ability, and Blizzard being Blizzard I bet they will implement some nice daily quests for that, huzzah!

So, what will be the first thing you do with your flying mount in Azeroth?
