Design Portfolio

Plaatj.es has extensive experience in all kinds of web, graphic and other sorts of design. Here is a selection of some of my projects.

Steampunk meets Wild West? Sure, np

Band logo

The band Moscow Express asked me to design them a steampunk/wild west logo. And that is exactly what they got

Flyers for the Huttendorp

The ‘Huttendorp’ is a local annual event where kids from different parts of the city get together to build a huge hut village from old pallets and other junk. It is, of course, led by a group of volunteers. This year they are short on volunteers, so they asked me if I could and would design recruitment flyers for volunteers.

Since this is all voluntary work, I offered to do their work for free. This made them very happy. They were even happier when I showed them the designs for the front and backside. This year’s ‘Huttendorp’ theme was ‘Deepsea’. I integrated the theme into the design of the flyer.

a Joomla based webshop

Mavawear, a small company specialising in motorcycle merchandise asked me to convert their existing static html website into a cms driven webshop.

For this project I chose Joomla as the CMS. I converted their existing design into a Joomla template, build e-shopping capabilities and social media integration into it.

The shop owners can now easily add new catagories and new products to their shop, without having to resort to editing the website’s html. They can now also easily keep track of stock, send e-mailings to their clients and have their clients Like their products on Facebook.

Visuals for the Erasmus University Rotterdam

The Erasmus University asked me to make some huge visuals to brighten up a boring building. They had just finished renovating the building, and needed something to break from all the bright, white  seen in the halls. The job description told me to make something visually appealing. Has an ‘Outside taken Inside’ theme, and has a strong connection to the University itself.

So, I went out and spend days (maybe weeks) walking around the campus, under various weather conditions, armed with a photo camera trying to take interesting pictures of the buildings and campus icons.

The building where the visuals are placed is a long square-shaped hallway, which like any other square, has 4 main corners. Each corner is decorated with a campus-themed visual.

The Erasmus was very satisfied, in fact they were so satisfied that a few months later they asked me to design a series of 8 60x60cm visuals to be printed on canvas and put up in 5 different college rooms. So,  I whipped out my trusty camera again :)

The on-campus hair-dresser was also impressed by the visuals, and asked if she could use one picture of the Erasmus Statue for her new shop. Ofcourse I let her use one, she cuts my hair afterall;)
